Suicide prevention awareness campaign
This is to mark National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and calls on the public to help raise awareness

EMOTIONAL wellness centre, LifeLine Zululand, will host suicide prevention awareness campaigns at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre on Saturday and 21 September.
This is to mark National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and calls on the public to help raise awareness.
Lifeline Zululand’s campaign will see volunteers share resources and information material with community members to shed light on this highly stigmatised topic.
The public can also place their hand prints on a canvas at the exhibition in support of creating awareness on suicide prevention and to encourage others to seek help if they find themselves in a helpless situation or feel they have reached a dead-end.
LifeLine’s 24/7 crisis support and intervention services provide a safety net for all, and Zululand Director Michelle Jewlal encouraged individuals, couples and families to embrace their emotional wellness and make it a priority.
Jewlal said dates will be advertised soon relating to an awareness prevention seminar that will highlight the need for psycho-social support and emotional wellness as a suicide prevention strategy.
‘Lack of emotional wellness impacts many different aspects of one’s daily life. For example, if you have a bad day, your behaviour and actions reflect this to the people around you, and influences the manner in which you interact with others.’
She says the impact of an emotionally unstable person has far reaching negative consequences on families, individuals and the community at large.
‘People with high emotional awareness who recognise their own emotional state, and that of others, can use their understanding to increase and strengthen relationships. ‘By doing so they can achieve greater success at work, home and school,’ Jewlal said.
