House torched after theft in Mfekayi (Mtubatuba)

'As a family we suspect Gugu’s boyfriend, Ngobese, who had threatened us after he had a fight with Gugu, accusing her of stealing R7 000 cash from his house'

ACCUSATIONS flew but no charges were laid after a rondavel was torched, allegedly by the angry boyfriend of the family’s daughter.

According to Deliwe Mbuyazi, spokesperson and member of the Mdletshe family, all the family members were asleep when the incident happened.

‘I was not at home when the incident occurred and by the time I got there the rondavel was already burnt to the ground.

‘As a family we suspect Gugu’s boyfriend, Ngobese, who had threatened us after he had a fight with Gugu, accusing her of stealing R7 000 cash from his house.

‘We asked Gugu about the money and she denied those allegations, but her boyfriend came back to fight with her after a sangoma he consulted at Mhlabuyalingana, told him she had taken the money.

‘She later confessed to having taken the money which she spent with another boyfriend, Mdumiseni.

‘On Saturday, Gugu and Mdumiseni went to the police station in Mtubatuba to ask for a protection order, but on their way back the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident and both ended up in hospital,’ said Deliwe.

The family reported the matter to local councillor S’jula Bukhosini who visited the house and decided to take the matter to the police.

KwaMsane police spokesperson captain Jabulani Mdletshe said, there was no case opened as yet.

‘The woman who was assaulted by her boyfriend did not want to open the case against her boyfriend.

‘She admitted that she stole the money from Ngobese and they were both willing to solve the problems without the intervention of the police.

‘In the matter of the house that was burnt down, we did not open the case because there were no witnesses and just allegations of who did it.’
