Step up for the SANCA Walk Away from Drugs
The 5km walk will start and finish at the Zululand Multi Sport Club in Meerensee and registration is open from 7.30am
THE 13th annual SANCA/Eyethu Bay Watch Walk away from Drugs event is just days away and everyone is encouraged to join in the fun on Saturday.
The 5km walk will start and finish at the Zululand Multi Sport Club in Meerensee and registration is open from 7.30am.
Fun activities, including a warm-up with Bootcamps uMhlathuze, start at 8.30am, with walkers hitting the road at 9am.
Those taking part in the parkrun are also encouraged to join in the walk – the more, the merrier!
As a SANCA fund-raiser, entry fee for adults is R20 and just R5 for children.
The walk’s generous sponsors have once again come on board, donating prizes of much-needed equipment for schools.
The aim of the event is to bring children to the realisation that toying with drugs could lead to substance abuse, which in turn leads to disaster and devastation.
‘The idea is to target young children before peer pressure becomes too much and they start dabbling in drugs and other substances,’ said Dave Savides, a member of the walk committee.
‘We read more and more news stories about high school children experimenting with over-the-counter medication for a quick fix, and so, by highlighting the dangers of drug addiction to pre-teen children, we hope to encourage them to stay away from such activities.’
