Dog found poisoned in eShowe

A post-mortem examination of the dog showed signs typically associated with aldicarb poisoning

A DOG found dead on a grass verge in Main Street, eShowe, is believed to have been poisoned.

A post-mortem examination of the dog showed signs typically associated with aldicarb poisoning.

Aldicarb possession is illegal in South Africa, but it is well known that criminals use this pesticide to poison dogs and wildlife.

It is deadly and is known on the streets as ‘two-step’, because of the speed at which it works.

Mielie meal contained signs of the poison aldicarb

The eShowe police have followed up on various reports of aldicarb being sold in plastic bags by street vendors.

Sate Vet, Dr Vanessa Meyer, investigated and confirmed initial observations.

The stomach contained mielie meal, cooked meat resembling chicken necks and black granules consistent with aldicarb, but more tests need to be conducted to confirm this.
