Poaching arrests made at harbour

North Coast Anti-poaching (NCAP) members were notified of the gill net at Blougat, near New Mouth

TWO suspected poachers were arrested in Richards Bay on Tuesday night and their boat and 800m gill nets were recovered.

North Coast Anti-poaching (NCAP) members were notified of the gill net at Blougat, near New Mouth.

On investigation, two responders found 33 fish caught in the net, most of which were already dead.

Among the live fish released were rock salmon, grunter, stumpnose and an eel, while the dead fish included three mullets, 13 square tail salmon, one black tail and six razor bellies.

A yellow billed cormorant was also found dead in the net.

The men were arrested by SAPS Waterwing and Transnet security, and taken into custody.
