Heightened border patrols bear fruit

A warrant of arrest issued by the police led to the capture and arrest of a suspect who was wanted in Gauteng for reckless and negligent driving

A PLANNED operation carried out early last week by eManguzi police officers along the South African/Mozambican border, led to the arrest of 11 illegal immigrants.

Aged between 19 and 39, they were charged with contravening the Immigration Act.

Additionally, a warrant of arrest issued by the police led to the capture and arrest of a suspect who was wanted in Gauteng for reckless and negligent driving.

He was caught crossing the border into Mozambique with friends and was taken to Gauteng to answer for his crimes.

He has a number of serious cases pending against him.

A stolen vehicle which was concealed in the Thengane area was recovered during the operation.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been hijacked in Gauteng.

An ID document, cellphones, a firearm magazine and spent cartridges were found inside.

Police are intensifying operations to clamp down on cross-border crimes.
