Community mourns local government leader

Nkosi, who collapsed during a speech in Vryheid at the weekend, has been met with disbelief in the local government sphere.

THE sudden passing of uMzinyathi District Municipality administrator Mandla Nkosi, who collapsed during a speech in Vryheid at the weekend, has been met with disbelief in the local government sphere.
KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Sipho Hlomuka, expressed his condolences to Nkosi’s family and colleagues and said his passing leaves a void in this critical sector that is at the coalface of service delivery.
Nkosi also previously worked as an administrator at Endumeni and AbaQulusi local municipalities.
‘Nkosi was a dedicated civil servant. He had 17 years experience as a municipal manager and the department drew on his experience in his capacity as an administrator at municipalities under intervention,’ Hlomuka said.
King Cetshwayo District Municipal Manager, Mbali Ndlovu, said Nkosi was a professional administrator, with years of experience as a municipal manager and served the King Cetshwayo District Municipality with distinction during his five-year term that ended in 2017.
‘Mr Nkosi’s passing is a great loss to local government, having served as a sound leader, a professional, and a decisive individual who has led many projects to successful completion.’
