Hijacking fears in Empangeni

CPF Chairperson Zonita Grobbelaar said a middle aged man was hit behind his head in an attempted hijacking last week, while on Tuesday evening a woman was forced out of her car at the same traffic circle

THE Empangeni Community Policing Forum (CPF) is on high alert after a motorist was hijacked and another narrowly escaped an attempt at the traffic circle in Dunn Road.

CPF Chairperson Zonita Grobbelaar said a middle aged man was hit behind his head in an attempted hijacking last week, while on Tuesday evening a woman was forced out of her car at the same traffic circle.

‘The first incident took place at around 11am when the man was accosted while driving his bakkie. He was hit on the head with a firearm, but still managed to speed off.

‘In the second incident the woman was approached by two men who jumped out of a Opel Corsa. The thugs instructed her to get out of her car and hand over the keys to her Mercedes. They then sped off with the car.’

Grobbelaar said that the stolen car was recovered a few hours later behind the Umfolozi Casino Resort.
