Body found floating at sea
The body of an adult male was recovered just off Richards Bay
DURING a trip out to sea on Thursday morning, crew of the fishing boat Summer Anjani found the body of a man floating in the sea two kilometres off Richards Bay.
The boat remained on the scene to direct rescuers to the body and National Sea Rescue Institute Richards Bay responded to the report.
The body of an adult male was recovered and brought to shore where local police and the forensic pathology experts examined the body after it was transported to the mortuary.
The body is unidentified and no one has come forward to report a missing person.
It is also unknown as to how the body came to be floating in the ocean.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
In a second incident on the same day NSRI Richards Bay responded to reports of a drowning in progress at Palm Beach.
People swimming and surfing on the beach rescued three females who were caught up in a rip current.
It was reported by NSRI that a woman aged 47 and her two daughters aged 11 and 12, from the North West Province, were brought safely to shore after being assisted by bystanders, brothers and surfers.
According to the report they were also transported to hospital by Netcare for observation for secondary drowning symptoms.
