Locals fade early in Ballito Pro

BY the time the Ballito Pro surfing event had reached the seventh round, only three South Africans were still in the hunt for the title.

Earlier, South Africans Beyrick de Vries and Jordy Smith made it through to the eighth round.

Smith finished first in the seventh heat with a 16.07 score, which included a 9.57 point four-turn combo, the highest scoring wave of the competition.

But that is how far both South Africans got, as they failed to make the semi-finals.

The Ballito Pro was won by Brazilian Deived Silva, with Jack Freestone (Australia) taking second spot.
