ACTING on information, swift police action on Tuesday foiled an attempted hit on Pick n Pay in Empangeni and then arrested four suspects after a car chase.
According to police, the proposed armed robbery was called off after the gang saw that security was too tight at the centre and decided to head back to Gauteng.
Members from Empangeni Crime Intelligence unit followed the suspects from Empangeni to Ulundi where they were stopped and searched together with members of Ulundi TRT.
Three unlicensed 9mm pistols were recovered along with 138 rounds of ammunition and four suspects were arrested.
Upon checking the new model BMW they were driving, it was established that it was stolen in Gauteng few months ago.
All the arrested suspects were due to appear at the Mahlabathini magistrates court on Thursday.
It is alleged that these suspects can be linked with other cases of armed robberies in KZN and Gauteng provinces.

Well done to the Empangeni Crime Intelligence unit and the security at the centre.
