THE Assembly of God church youth led a march through Esikhaleni last weekend against alcohol and drug abuse.
The march, which coincided with National Youth Day on Sunday, was to encourage young people to fight the scourge of substance abuse and to ‘be a generation of legacy’.
‘Many young people have fallen into drug and alcohol abuse and sometimes parents are not aware because in most instances it is happening during and after school.
‘We are seeing it among young people in eSikhaleni because there are a number of taverns and not many entrepreneurship centres and youth development programs,’ said church member Nompumelelo Ndlela.
Pastor Amos Zulu said the solution to such an epidemic needs to be dealt with collectively, involving the youth, parents, the entire community and government.
