Beast back on the charge

'Josh has beefed up and now tips the scales at an impressive 104kg,' said father/coach Corrie Pretorius

ZULULAND heavyweight fighter Joshua Pretorius has been putting in the hard yards ahead of his SA title contender elimination bout against Cape Town-based giant Tian Fick scheduled for Sunday, 16 June at Sunningdale Sports Complex in Cape Town.

‘Preparations have been going exceptionally well and we are on track with our build-up to the big fight.

Josh has beefed up and now tips the scales at an impressive 104kg,’ said father/coach Corrie Pretorius.

‘From this week we will focus on stamina and fitness before flying down to Johannesburg on 4 June for some sparring sessions with former IBO world youth heavyweight champion Flo Simba and other heavy hitters.

The ‘Red Beast’ will have his hands full when taking on an unbeaten Fick on home soil. The Cape juggernaut measures a towering six foot seven (2.04m) compared to Pretorius’ 1.82m.

‘Beating Fick will place us in the top contender spot for the heavyweight title and we will then file a challenge to boxing South Africa against the winner of the title fight between current SA heavyweight champion Ruan Visser and Justice Saliga on 23 June.’
