THE Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has warned of an ongoing scam by fraudsters claiming to be assisting people with their cases.
This follows a recent incident in which an individual was defrauded of R800 in Limpopo by a fraudster pretending to be a CCMA Commissioner at the Polokwane regional office.
It is reported that the perpetrator used a mobile phone to call the victim, claiming to be handling her case and instructing her to consult a particular medical doctor.
The victim was requested to pay a fee to acquire a medical certificate required for the finalisation of her case.
‘The public are reminded that the CCMA’s statutory mandate of dispute resolution (conciliation and arbitration) is free of charge.
‘Furthermore, the CCMA’s official communication with users is not done through mobile phones but through official CCMA office lines and email addresses,’ said CCMA spokesperson, Dumisani Mavundla.
The public has been encouraged to call 0861 16 16 16 to validate case details.
‘Should any CCMA official solicit money or favour from stakeholders, please report the incident to the CCMA fraud and corruption hotline: 0860 666 348.
Confidentiality is guaranteed,’ Mavundla said.
