Richards Bay car lover’s plea for help
‘I am heartsore more than anything else because it was not just a car, but a project that I had put all my time and effort into'
RICHARDS Bay resident Shawn Chetty is offering a R10 000 reward for the safe return of his Citi Golf, which he spent more than a decade building.
Speaking to the ZO the devastated car owner said he had spent more than R200 000 on modifications and racing equipment for the car.
It was stolen from his brother, Vinesh Chetty’s, workshop during what is believed to have been a targeted robbery in the early hours of Sunday morning.
‘I am heartsore more than anything else because it was not just a car, but a project that I had put all my time and effort into.
‘Every part of that car was re-done and I had sourced unique car parts which I collected through the years. I had just finished work on the car last week.’
The blue Citi Golf was the only car stolen from the workshop.
Vinesh said three armed men broke into his workshop, Zululand Springsmiths in Alton, Richards Bay.
‘They tied up my guard and locked him in one of the back rooms. There were three company bakkies and a number of other cars which were also parked in the workshop but they chose my brother’s car, which when you look at, you would not really know is a modified car.
‘I told my brother that we could find him a new car but he is devastated.’A case of car theft was opened at Richards Bay police station.
The car’s registration is NRB 64667. Anyone with information can contact Vinesh on 073 4583939
