VOTING got off to a slow but smooth start this morning (Wednesday) around Zululand, with only a few minor hiccups reported at the start of election day.

The Aquadene and Brackenham community hall polling stations experienced a delayed start as no ballot papers had been delivered.

The problem was rectified by just after 8 am at Brackenham Community Hall, but Aquadene voters had to wait a while longer.
Polling stations around eShowe, Melmoth and Ginginglovu were very quiet, with apparent low voter turnout in Mevamhlophe.

The Grantham Park and Richem voting stations experienced scanner problems, but this did not prevent voters from casting their ballots.

Reports from the Matshana polling station was that there was no water or toilets.
It was also noted that many voting stations did not have a big political party presence.
