A FATHER who was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on multiple counts of rape and indecent assault on his daughter, ushered an emotional plea for forgiveness.
The 47-year-old man broke down in tears as he told the court there were no words to say how sorry he was for his actions and asked God and his family to forgive him.
The incidents are alleged to have happened since 1999 to 2011 in various places including Potchefstroom in the North West province, Vierfontein, Free State, Steelfontein and Rustenburg in the North West, Louis Trichardt and Ellisras, Limpopo and Pretoria and Bronkhorstspruit in Gauteng.
Presiding Prosecutor Valencia Harripersadh said while the father was sorry for his actions and loved his children, an apology would not take away the pain and emotional damage.
‘She was a child at the time and exposed to verbal abuse and domestic violence.
‘The complainant testified that she wanted to even kill herself and endured the trauma to save her siblings,’ said Harripersadh.
In sentencing, Magistrate Carl Zaayman said the accused believed he was in a relationship with his daughter and she was physically abused.
‘He distorted her view of right and wrong and manipulated and abused his position as a father and destroyed the trust relationship between father and daughter.
‘What the accused did was wrong. There was no way she could have tempted him for sex and the man wanted to place the blame on her.
‘He must accept responsibility for his wrongdoing, taking into account the serious nature of the crimes,’ he said.
Everybody pay for your indulgence ..if you over eat you get fat. If you take illegal drugs you also go down but the damage you do is to yourself. If you get turned on there is many ways to “help” yourself. I am proud of the daughters who speak up. And for judges who sentence them. At least he will have 12 years to be someones sex puppet without provoking it maybe he will be so fortunate to play the daughter part… Yummy !!!
