Promised benefits do not exist says Department of Labour

'The Department of Labour has not solicited anyone to come forward to receive 'any so-called benefits'.

THE Department of Labour says it has not promised to pay benefits of $30 000 to people who have worked between 1990 and 2019.

The department said on Wednesday this was a new scam doing the rounds on social media and cautioned the public against falling prey.

‘The Department of Labour has not solicited anyone to come forward to receive any so-called benefits. This offer does not exist.

‘Scammers are encouraging the public to share the information about the so-called benefits.’

It said scammers have since created an online link in which members of the public are guided on how to withdraw the so-called benefits after answering a set of questions to establish whether they qualify.

‘The public should not share their personal information on social media platforms.

‘The department’s services are offered free of charge.’

The public has also been urged to report such criminal acts to the police or report it on the department’s fraud hotline.
