Champs to burn up oval track
Burning rubber and screeching tyres will announce an action-packed oval track race programme
LOCALS and visitors looking for fast action are in for a treat as the Richards Bay Hotrod Club hosts the 2013 Champion of Champions Oval racing event at the Fiveways Raceway in Richards Bay on Saturday 28 December at 6pm.
Gates open at 8am and the 330m tarred Oval will feature some of the most spectacular classes ever seen on race circuits in the world.
Multiple South African champion, Quinton Saayman, will be part of the spectacular V8 Sprint Car entry.
These monsters are capable of producing well over 800bhp as they burn their tyres in a battle for traction.
Brother Eugene and father Edward are part of the entry that also includes Wild Willie Zurich, one of the most spectacular drivers ever to race in South Africa.
The Sprint Cars will be qualifying for their grid positions which will kick off at 4.30pm.
The spectacular Super Midgets make a welcome return to KZN as a star studded field of 13B Mazda Rotary powered vehicles take to the track for the first time in six years.
Frans Prinsloo heads the entry as the only local driver although he will be hard pressed against the likes of Theo Brussouw, Ernest Theron and Andre Johnson.
Richards Bay boasts the top Hotrods in the country and with Wynand Van Rensburg, Neville Loosemore, Louw Du Toit and Okert Brits up against a returning Chris Landsburg from Durban and Nico Vorster from Rietkuil one can expect some awesome racing from these Mazda Rotary powered vehicles.
The support classes include 1660 Saloons, Pintos( including the new South African Champion Jacques Maree), Super Saloons and Stock Rods.
The Ninja junior formula will kick off proceedings as they start racing at 4pm.
Admission is R70 for Adults and R30 for Children.
