Motorists urged to be vigilant as thunderstorms hit Zululand

Motorists should expect traffic congestion in many parts of the province.

KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda has urged motorists to exercise caution when driving on the provincial roads as bad weather conditions persists.

South African Weather Services has issued a warning of thunderstorms, especially in Zululand, north coast regions and the northern part of the EThekwini municipality today.

‘We urge motorists to make sure that they switch on their lights and also keep a safe following distance.

‘As it’s a Friday, motorists should expect traffic congestion in many parts of  the province. It is also important that motorists reduce speed to avoid collisions.

‘Let us be patient with one another and obey road rules.

‘I urge all motorists to stay clear of parts where there is rainfall until the situation is back to normal.

‘This weather is likely to persist throughout the day and possibly into the weekend, and all motorists are urged to ensure that vehicles are in a roadworthy state before undertaking any trips,’ said Kaunda.
