Brackenham derelict house haven for criminals
The house is severely neglected and has also become a dumping ground
AN abandoned house in Brackenham is posing major challenges for neighbours in Grandiceps street, who reported that the vacant property is a threat to their safety and well-being.
Resident Clive Yenkasamy, who has a property in the same street, said the premises has been unoccupied for many years and complained of the unhygienic conditions, overgrown grass, rodents, feral cats, unsightly building and public disturbance as a result of the house not being maintained.
Yenkasamy said the house is not only an eyesore but has become a haven for criminals who have targeted the premises, stolen from the house and also stripped the vehicles in the backyard.

The house is severely neglected and has also become a dumping ground.
‘I have been living here for seven years and the building was never occupied; I was told that the house has been empty for over a decade.
‘Not only is this a hazard for my family but we hear movements around the house at night and we have seen people gaining unlawful entry into the building as well.
‘I have young children and am concerned about their safety as there is an infestation of rats and feral cats and an offensive smell at times, which is really unhygienic and poses a threat for disease.
‘The overgrown bushes and grass also pose a risk and we have found snakes on our premises in the past.
‘It has become a congregating place for criminal activities, where substance abusers meet and use drugs.
‘The outdoor shelter has collapsed onto the vehicles and furniture and the feral cats have made it their home.
‘It is sad to see a house in that condition, when there is such a shortage of housing and people desperate for shelter.’
