No experience necessary for entry-level jobs from April

'The Minister of Public Service and Administration has issued a directive to all government departments on the implementation of the new policy.'

Deputy President David Mabuza on Wednesday announced that as of 1 April, work experience will no longer be a prerequisite for entry-level jobs in government.

Speaking during a question and answer session in Parliament, Mabuza labelled the move as a game-changer that will see a decrease in unemployment of suitably qualified young people.

‘We have seen similar initiatives in the private sector that also afforded unemployed youth opportunities of a first-time job, and we call upon all our partners in the private sector to embrace this change.

‘The Minister of Public Service and Administration has issued a directive to all government departments on the implementation of the new policy.’

Mabuza said all departments are required to introduce a graduate recruitment scheme and to identify graded posts based on the departmental human resource plan and other service delivery improvement initiatives.
