NRB advance in Nedbank Cup
In a tough away game NRB absorbed early pressure and the teams went into the break with no goals to show for their efforts
Richards Bay FC played their hearts out to fully deserve a 2-1 Nedbank Cup win over holders Free State Stars.
In a tough away game NRB absorbed early pressure and the teams went into the break with no goals to show for their efforts.
Coach Brandon Truter rang the changes and pushed the midfield higher up in the second stanza and it did the trick.
Mike Gumede tamed a super cross from Sandile Kubheka and calmly buried the ball in the back of the net in the 53rd minute.
The second came from a breakaway as Siyanda Ngubo’s pace proved too much and he slid the ball home past the advancing keeper for 2-0.
The home side did pull one back but Richards Bay never let their heads drop and now they are in the last 16 left in the prestigious competition.
