Richards Bay kayaker rescued
The lady, slightly exhausted from struggling against the current, was transferred onto the NSRI sea rescue craft and brought ashore safely.
RICHARDS Bay NSRI Station 19 was this week alerted to a kayaker in difficulty in the Port of Richards Bay channel.
The NSRI was activated by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) on Tuesday and immediately launched a rescue craft.
‘The sea rescue craft Spirit of Round Table II was launched and on arrival at the scene, the 48-year-old local female was found to have been rescued onto a ski-boat that had noticed her in the water while entering the channel,’ said NSRI Richards Bay Station Commander, Norman Rautenbach.
‘The lady, slightly exhausted from struggling against the current, was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought ashore safely.
‘Following treatment for exhaustion, she required no further assistance.
‘The NSRI commends the crew on the boat that rescued her for their assistance.’
