THREE Nongoma police officers are fighting for their lives in hospital after being shot during the business robbery in the Nongoma central business district on Monday morning.
It is reported that eight officers in two police vehicles were doing routine patrols in the early morning hours, when they were ambushed by a heavily armed gang.
DA Provincial Leader, Zwakele Mncwango, who attended the scene, claimed that officers were unaware about the robbery taking place in the area.

‘We heard about 30 gunshots going off at about 2:30 am. What made matter worse was that police had to use their own vehicles to rush their injured colleagues to hospital.
‘Soo many people have lost their lives owing to the lack of emergency services in Nongoma,’ said Mncwango.
Zululand Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said three officers suffered various injuries and were rushed to hospital in critical, but stable conditions.
‘The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from local petrol stations. We are currently investigating three cases of attempted murder and two cases of business robbery,’ she said.
