UIF distances itself from what appears to be a political party message circulating on whatsapp
For the record, the UIF unequivocally condemns and distances itself from the message
The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has noted with great concern a message circulating on WhatsApp, claiming that membership with a certain political party is required in order to benefit from UIF’s Labour Activation Programmes (LAP).
In the message, it is stated the UIF, through LAP, is seeking to recruit people for training in various fields, such as: Chefs training, Community Safety Liaison, Stone Crushing, Agri – processing, Game Farming, and Performing Arts. The message also suggests that learners will receive a R2000 monthly stipend. It further states that learners must have a membership with a certain political party or be in the process of obtaining membership.
For the record, the UIF unequivocally condemns and distances itself from the message.
The UIF wishes to state quite clearly that when the Fund is recruiting learners for training programmes through LAP, the recruitment and selection is done through the Department of Labour’s Employment Services South Africa (ESSA) and government partners. ESSA can be accessed on essa.labour.gov.za
UIF Commissioner, Teboho Maruping, said: “The UIF would like to encourage potential learners to be vigilant and ignore the message being circulated on Whatsapp. The UIF’s services and Labour Activation Programmes projects are for everyone who qualifies and require no membership with any political party.”
The Unemployment Insurance Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour whose mandate is to provide short term relief to workers who qualify for benefits.
