Ongoing delays in licence printing
The DA on Monday called on KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda, to provide immediate relief to those affected

DESPITE the driver’s licence printing company resuming work in December after a four-month strike, ongoing delays in licence printing abound as they work through the backlog.
The DA on Monday called on KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda, to provide immediate relief to those affected.
‘The DA is concerned by the lack of urgency on the part of MEC Kaunda and his department to intervene and ensure that MLBs (motor licensing bureaus) are operating at full capacity,’ said MPL Rafeek Shah.
‘These are KZN’s law-abiding citizens and it is unacceptable that they should have to spend hours and sometimes days queuing just to avoid prosecution.’
Shah said he expects the MEC to deal with staff shortages hampering service delivery, attend to the ‘shocking’ infrastructure resulting from poor maintenance and root out endemic corruption.
Regarding IT problems at some MLBs, Shah said funds had been set aside for upgrades and maintenance of equipment, but this had not been done.
‘Was the money ever spent on this and, if so, where are the results?
‘MEC Kaunda is answerable to every road user in our province.’
The department’s spokesperson was not available for comment.
