THE ANC Women’s League in KZN has heaped praise on the MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, for creating permanent employment for hundreds of nurses.
Women’s League provincial secretary, Nonhlanhla Gabela, said her party saw it fit to congratulate Dhlomo and the Department of Health for creating opportunities that ensured the placements of 300 nurses.
She said the nurses have been struggling for years to secure permanent employment.
‘According to StatsSA, the unemployment rate in South Africa has increased to 27.2% and those mostly affected are women,’ Gabela said. adding that women have always been more vulnerable to unemployment than men.
‘We welcome these appointments with a belief that empowering women will assist in reducing the burden for many families across the province,’ she said.
