KING CETSHWAYO Police Cluster members, together with Melmoth SAPS, arrested five suspects for being possession of an illegal firearm on Friday night.
Provincial spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said police stopped a BMW with five occupants driving through kwaNdabazensangu, and conducted a search.
‘A pistol with a filed off serial number was recovered. The five suspects, aged between 23 and 40, were arrested and will appear in the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court soon,’ said Mbhele.
He said the suspects will be profiled to determine whether they are linked to other serious and violent cases in the province.
‘The firearm will also be subjected to ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any crime.’.
