THE case against a member of the KwaMsane police arrested for being in possession of rhino horn, will continue in the new year.

Constable Sizwe Buthelezi appeared in the Ngwelezana Magistrate’s Court on 28 November, where the case against him was postponed to 7 January to allow for further investigation.

Buthelezi, who is facing charges of possession of a prohibited firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of protected endangered species (rhino horn) and possession of a dangerous weapon, was previously granted bail of R2 000.

He was arrested in October by members of Rhino 09 SAPS and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife after the vehicle he was travelling in was detected exiting the Makhamisa section of the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.

A search of the vehicle revealed a Winchester rifle with the serial numbers filed off, ammunition, two rhino horns and three hunting knives.
