Community invited to support Christmas charity drive

Nhlozi, who completed his high schooling at John Ross College last year, will treat the youngsters to a braai and fun day on 24 December

AQUADENE youngster Mvuzo Nhlozi is gearing up to host a Christmas party for about 80 children who attend the youth development programmes at the Lungelo Youth Development (LYD) project in Mzingazi.

Nhlozi, who completed his high schooling at John Ross College last year, will treat the youngsters to a braai and fun day on 24 December.

A few months ago he was diagnosed with chronic kidney and pneumococcal diseases.

This prompted him to establish a community organisation to reach out to the youth and community and promote education programmes and projects.

The teenager started the Vuka Uzakhe project which aims to empower and educate the youth through various development programmes, focusing on life skills awareness, sport interventions and outreach.

Nhlozi is currently seeking sponsorships and donations to host the event which will include distributing toys, clothing and books to young children.

In addition, Nhlozi has invited some top rugby personalities to join in the celebrations and share their experiences and life stories to help motivate the youngsters to reach for their dreams and not let their circumstances or backgrounds hold them back.

According to Mary Mlambo, founder of LYD, the project helps to educate the children of Mzingazi about their rights.

‘The aim of LYD is to create an environment of protection where children can be nurtured and develop their skills to their full potential.’

The organisation is, however, reliant on donations.

Anyone interested in supporting the fun day or making a donation can contact Mvuso on 062 0051105.
