Chunks of earth, sand and clay are gouged from the dune face every spring high tide

THE relentless advance of spring tide wave action once again scooped a sizeable chunk out of the coastal dunes north of Alkantstrand over the weekend.

The next row of trees is poised to join those already lying on the beach

Scores of trees dropped down the slope of the dunes and, in the absence of dredger spoil, what little soil there is on the beach comes from the clay and sand gouged from the dune face.

Visible only at low tide, this rusted old metal pipeline poses great danger to bathers, surfers and kiteboarders
