Spring tides consume coastal dunes
Low tide exposes the hidden dangers of old pipes, rocks, tree stumps and general debris that pose particular peril to surfers and kiteboarders
THE relentless advance of spring tide wave action once again scooped a sizeable chunk out of the coastal dunes north of Alkantstrand over the weekend.

Scores of trees dropped down the slope of the dunes and, in the absence of dredger spoil, what little soil there is on the beach comes from the clay and sand gouged from the dune face.
