In memory of those who have passed on from the disease, as well as to celebrate with survivors, caregivers and warriors

NUMBERS were low but enthusiasm was high at this year’s CANSA Relay for Life, held at the ZCBF oval on Saturday.

In memory of those who have passed on from the disease, as well as to celebrate with survivors, caregivers and warriors, the event has been revived and returned to the venue where CANSA supporters walk in relays around the oval track for 12 hours.

Nelly Mnguni, Andiswa Moepye, Sbahle Mabika and Emihle Zulu were looking forward to the relay in memory of those cared for during their battle with cancer

This was preceded by a Survivors’ lap and the lighting of Luminaria remembrance candles.

From 6pm to 6am the following morning, at least one team member must be on the track.

While this year’s event was not as well supported as in the past owing to the dire financial climateand a number of other events taking place on the day, those who were there relished the opportunity to honour those who have passed, to celebrate life and to be thankful.
