THE Zululand Crime Intelligence Cluster, together with Ulundi’s Public Order Policing unit, conducted an operation in the Masokaneni area in Nongoma following a tip-off about a suspect who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Zululand Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said during the operation on Thursday, a suspect (32) was arrested for being in possession of a 12 bore muzzle pump action shotgun.
Nkosie said in another operation held by the Tactical Response Team in Ulundi, two suspects were arrested for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Gwala said one of the suspects was a notorious ex-convict who might be linked to a string of cases committed in the Hlabisa area recently.
‘He might be linked to a case in which a security vehicle was robbed of five handguns. Last year he was arrested at Mahlabathini for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm after serving his 15 years’ sentence for armed robbery,’ said Gwala.
