SA bound Eclipse wins Good Design award
In selecting Eclipse Cross, the Good Design Award Committee rated its design highly

THE SA bound Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross compact SUV has been selected as a recipient of the Good Design Award 2018 run by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
In selecting Eclipse Cross, the Good Design Award Committee rated its design highly, commenting:
‘The bold wedge profile is very striking.
‘The character line that cuts sharply into the sides is distinctive, and one sees the attention to detail in the styling that, on the one hand, locates the door handles on this line to create a unified look, while, on the other, horizontally divides the rear window to retain good visibility.
‘We were also impressed with the way in which the design uses different cross-sections for the front and rear roof edges to create a coupé-like silhouette, while also providing the cabin space and comfort required in a SUV,’ said the committee.
With local specifications yet to be revealed, the Eclipse Cross will be offered in Europe with the choice of two powertrains.
The first is a new 1.5-litre turbo-charged petrol engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (with eight virtual cogs), while the second is the familiar 2.2-litre turbo-diesel unit fitted with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
For SA, Nic Campbell, General Manager at Mitsubishi Motors said: ‘We are eager to launch and welcome the all-new class-leading Eclipse Cross to our product range next year. As the anticipation rises, our dealers are already taking orders.’
