
OPERATIONS by the Vryheid Stock Theft Unit yielded positive results when they recovered 16 suspected stolen cattle, 11 goats, one sheep and arrested a man for stock theft at Mondlo near Vryheid.
The arrested suspect (25) was due to appear in the Nqutu Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday).
The operation started on Sunday, 8 December in the Vryheid, Mondlo and Glückstadt areas.
Four cattle, three goats and a sheep were recovered at Mondlo, while 12 cattle were found at Glückstadt and eight goats at Vryheid.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, expressed her confidence in the current crime prevention and detection strategy to fight stock theft in the province.
‘We will continue to fight stock theft in partnership with the rural livestock owners. We urge them to properly brand mark their livestock for speedy identification purposes and also advise them to take necessary precautions to safeguard their livestock whilst grazing.
‘We commend the recovery of the stolen livestock and arrest of the suspects,’ said Lt Gen Ngobeni.
