KZN Regional Court President probed for misconduct

The ZO previously reported on allegations by environmental group Saving the Wild that Nzimande was guilty of bribery and misconduct

ONE of South Africa’s senior justice officials has been suspended amid ongoing allegations of misconduct.

KZN Regional Court President, Eric Nzimande was recently served with a charge sheet by the Magistrates’ Commission and was given 14 days to respond to the claims.

The ZO previously reported on allegations by environmental group Saving the Wild that Nzimande was guilty of bribery and misconduct.

According to Jamie Joseph of Saving the Wild, murderers, rapists, rhino poachers and other criminals are walking free because of a systematic web of corruption woven by the very people put in charge of protecting South Africans.

Nzimande is accused of being at the centre of the damning allegations. It’s not the first time that the man in charge of appointing magistrates throughout the province has made headlines.

In 2016, Rapport newspaper revealed that Nzimande had been subjected to an internal investigation following allegations that he had offered a female magistrate a job in exchange for cash and other alleged favours.

Despite the allegations having surfaced in 2015, Nzimande remained in his post at the time.

According to Rapport, allegations against Nzimande stemmed from an email sent to the minister of justice and to the Magistrates’ Commission by a former acting regional court magistrate in KZN, Thinake Lindelwa Gumede.

A documentary aired by the BBC, ‘Rhino: Killing and Corruption’, delved into similar allegations made against Nzimande by Saving the Wild.

Nzimande is expect to respond to the Magistrates’ Commission by tomorrow (Tuesday).
