Mtuba anti-crime activist takes to the road again

Jan’s latest walk comes after the release of KZN’s shocking crime statistics

ZULULANDER Jan Mabuyakhulu, who actively speaks out against women and child abuse, will on Tuesday take to the highway again, walking from Mtubatuba to Amanzimtoti.

Shocked by Tuesday’s release of the national crime statistics, and especially saddened by the increasing rate of sexual offences and murder in KZN, Jan decided that another anti-abuse walk was on the cards.

‘The law is not working for us law-abiding citizens, but it is working for the criminals,’ he said.

‘The crime statistics are far too high and the fact that they are increasing rather than decreasing is very worrying.’

Jan’s walk will take about two weeks, and he plans to hold educational and awareness talks along the way.

‘Together with the Office of the Premier, I am arranging an awareness talk and campaign in Chatsworth where child trafficking and other violent crimes are very high.’

He hopes to hold awareness talks at schools, churches and other venues along the whole route.

‘We need the province to stand together and fight crime which seems to be out of control.

‘I want to encourage as many people as possible to join me on the walk.

While the Office of the Premier is sponsoring Jan’s accommodation along the route, he is looking for sponsorship for a new backpack, walking shoes and water.

In December, Jan hopes to walk from Mtubatuba to Pretoria and hand a letter to Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng highlighting the fact that the law is not protecting innocent citizens.

For more information on how to join Jan on his walk or to come aboard as a sponsor, he can be contacted on 079 4370138.
