The deceased, a 16-year-old learner, was stabbed with a sharp instrument several times.
A post-mortem revealed she had been raped before being killed.
D/Const Chantell Kopman traced two possible suspects and DNA samples were taken in an effort to link them to the crime.
The DNA results linked one suspect and he was arrested.
The suspect is being profiled to check if he is linked to a similar case at uMlalazi where another 16-year-old was raped and stoned to death two weeks ago.
