Amangwe cultural exchange
The girls enjoyed sharing their experiences with their American visitors
AS part of a cultural exchange, three girls of Amangwe Village recently enjoyed a whirlwind tour of Pretoria and Johannesburg, including some South African historical highlights, along with the American students they welcomed to the country.
Snethemba Maphisa, Ntokozo Mhlongo and Phumelele Mhlongo are part of Amangwe Village’s Shining Stars girls’ group and they thoroughly enjoyed playing tour guide to the girls from Katherine Brown Leadership Academy in the USA while learning more about their own country.
Included in the trip was a visit to the US Peace Corps office in Pretoria, Constitution Hill, the Constitutional Court, Mandela Square, the Apartheid Museum and an elephant sanctuary.
Not all play, the trip also included tours of the University of Pretoria’s grounds and science centre, and a tour of University of KZN in Durban.
The girls were exposed to much of what they could expect at university, including the subjects they would need for specific courses and the required points to gain entry.
They all agreed that they had a wonderful time with the American girls and enjoyed all that they learnt on the trip.
