Bomb scare: Cops search Sanlam Centre in Empangeni

Centre shops cordoned off following bomb scare

POLICE are currently doing a sweep in the Checkers area of the Sanlam Centre in Empangeni following a bomb threat.

This after an employee received a call from an unknown caller, claiming that a bomb would be detonated within 10 minutes.

Private security personnel were first on scene as someone in the store triggered the panic button in response to the threat.

Checkers was cordoned off and staff from stores in the immediate vicinity evacuated.

While all signs point to it being a false alarm, the public are still being advised to stay clear of the area.

According to reports a person was earlier arrested at Checkers by police.

Police confirmed this, but said the bomb threat could not necessarily be linked to the arrest.

The centre should be reopened within the next hour.
