Protesters block entry into Mkhuze
Reports from the scene indicate that the protest is not violent
THERE is no way in or out of Mkhuze town as protesters have blocked the main road leading off the N2 with tyres and other burning debris.
The protest began early this morning as protesters accuse their local ward councillor of giving jobs to outsiders.
‘Work began on the railway line about a week ago, but no one from our ward has been employed on the project,’ said Sipho Myeni, a community leader.

‘Councillor Mokhene Nxumalo has not ensured our community gets work on the project, and he has so far refused to meet with us.’
Myeni said they would continue with the protest until the councillor agrees to meet with them.
The situation is so far contained to Mkhuze and has not spilled out onto the N2.
It is not expected to as reports from the scene indicate the protest is not violent.
