Project aims to boost girls’ self-esteem

EMPOWERING young girls is Zululand model Samkelisiwe ‘Saam’ Nzuza’s mission.
This 23-year-old down-to-earth beauty from eSikhaleni is collecting panties for young girls, especially in rural schools and orphanage homes around Zululand.
She started the Saam’s Panties Project at Engalangala Primary School in eSikhaleni where she donated panties for disadvantaged girls.
‘People donate clothes and sanitary pads to young girls, but never think about how the pads will be kept in place by those who cannot afford underwear.
‘Periods are a sensitive issue as it is, and many girls are embarrassed to even tell their parents or teachers that they don’t have underwear.
‘Can you imagine how it feels like to be young and have ragged underwear because of your circumstances? It kills your self-esteem as a young woman,’ Nzuza said.
She continues to collect panties for young girls and those interested in assisting the project can call 078 9497249.
