DESPITE the poor weather conditions on Saturday, a number of fans still turned up at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex to see if Thanda Royal Zulu could break their recent bad spell when they faced Roses United.
But at the final whistle their mood remained as dark as the overhead clouds as Amabhubesi once more failed to do a victory dance, with the match ending in a goalless draw.
After a minute’s silence for Nelson Mandela’s passing, the game kicked off with Thanda Royal displaying a fighting spirit and purposeful energy.
Within the first few minutes both teams had a shot at the nets, but two spectacular saves by the respective goalkeepers kept the scoreboard clean.
The teams were evenly matched with some fantastic drives from Thanda Royals’ Thobelani Manelli and Velile Zitha and Roses United’s Bongani Fakude and Thato Sithole. Neither team were able to finish and put the ball into the net, however.
Thanda Royal Zulu’s next game will be played against African Warriors on Sunday at the Charles Mopeli Stadium.
