THE public must be vigilant about fraudsters and on the alert so as not to fall victim to scams.
This was the warning from Mtubatuba SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Justice Hlabisa.
‘There are many types of fraud, and the public is warned against responding to any adverts where they are asked to send in money before receiving anything.’
He also cautioned the public about overusing the SAPS to get documents certified, but that they should rather get this done at the post office or Home Affairs.

‘Police officers need to be out on the streets fighting and preventing crime, keeping our citizens safe.’
During a recent phone-in programme at a local radio station, callers raised concerns about the local branch of Isikhebe, a vigilante group active in the area.
Captain Hlabisa clearly explained that no one is above the law.
‘Kidnapping and torture are against the constitution and if anyone witnesses or experiences this, they must immediately report it to the police.
‘Traditional structures and ward councillors must ensure their wards are safe and if there is not enough visible policing, they must report this to the police station.’
He also spoke about the various school visits undertaken by Mtubatuba police officers, where they participate in school safety programmes in an attempt to root out drugs and weapons.
