Councillor urges youth involvement in agriculture
The youth were reminded that there is commercial value in agriculture
IT is high time the youth understand that the agricultural sector is not a ‘retirement destination’.
This was the sentiment of City of uMhlathuze Ward 28 Councillor Phikelakhe Ntanzi, speaking at the launch of the Phinduvele community project at Bomvini Reserve outside Ngwelezana.

Ntanzi said he was concerned about the ‘no show’ of young people in critical sectors such as agriculture.
‘Where are the young people in agriculture? It is disturbing to only see senior citizens playing an active role in this sector.’
Ntanzi appealed to community members and local farmers to encourage their children to enter farming, saying this could prove a solution to youth unemployment.
He reminded the 14 members of Phinduvele project that there was commercial value in agriculture.
‘As we hand over this project to you, please treat it as a business. Remember, this is not a government’s project, but your own.’
