WHO doesn’t love a juice burger? Problem is, how do we eat a burger in public without ending up covered in sauce?

But it doesn’t have to be like this.

Three researchers, who specialise in fluid mechanics, engineering and dentistry, experimented with the best – scientifically based – way to hold and eat and burger without it falling apart.

Most people hold a burger with their thumbs on the bottom and fingers on top.

This is an acceptable way to hold a burger, as it squeezes all the toppings out to the sides of the burger.

However, if you add your pinkies to the equation, it will make a massive difference.

The researchers found that the most effective way of holding a burger is to keep your thumbs and pinkies on the bottom and the other three fingers on top. Your pinkies will hold the back side of the bun together so the contents can’t spill out.

It’s important, though, not to hold the burger too tight. Once you crush the bun, the toppings are more likely to spill out.

The dental expert also suggested warming up your mouth muscles before taking that first bite. Open and close your mouth as wide as possible a few times.

Another trick for a mess-free burger is to hold it upside down. This is because the top bun is twice as thick as the bottom one.
