Police are searching for four men who arrived a homestead, carrying firearms and wearing balaclavas, before robbing a 63-year-old mother of her vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, and taking all the family members with them.

The Richards Bay Flying Squad and Empangeni K9 unit members began a search for the vehicle.

‘While patrolling they spotted the vehicle on the N2 driving north.

‘A high speed chase ensued and there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the police.’
‘The suspects abandoned the vehicle near Phelandaba, evading arrest by running into nearby bushes.’
‘The kidnapped victims were left in the sugarcane fields in the Ezidedele area,’ SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said.
