One century for amazing local Gogo

And her one hundredth birthday, she was honored for being 'a woman of God'

‘A SELFLESS woman of God who has dedicated her life to the church’ is how gogo Tryphina Cele was described at her 100th birthday celebration at the weekend.

Gogo Cele was honoured at the event held at The Bay Hall on Sunday, which coincided with the Church of the Holy Ghost’s thanksgiving and Mother’s Day.

Her son Clement Cele described her as an honest person and a disciplinarian.

‘She is very tough and always speaks her mind.

‘If she does not like something, she will let you know,’ Clement said.

He said he is grateful that she has reached this milestone.

‘I’m truly grateful that I still have a mother and the children still have their grandmother.

‘But we have God to thank for that because all of this is His plan.

‘And seeing this day and being able to celebrate with her brings a lot of joy.

‘We thank her for all she has done for us.

It is very important to honour the people you love while they are still alive,’ Clement said.

Meanwhile, her daughter in-law, Busisiwe, said: ‘It is a rare gift to reach 100 years of age, a gift that is not given to just anybody.’

Busisiwe also applauded her for being a great role model.

‘She had a hand in shaping and teaching a lot of young women.

‘I was very young when I married into the family and she helped raise me and taught me how to be a woman and take care of my home.

‘I thank her for these teachings,’ Busisiwe said.
