Spotlight on Isithebe job creation
The committee had in the past raised concerns about high levels of unemployment in Mandeni and surrounding areas
JOB creation took centre stage when the Isithebe Community Organisation (ISCO) met with the Mandeni Municipality leadership last week at the Sibusisiwe Community Hall.
The committee had in the past raised concerns about high levels of unemployment in Mandeni and surrounding areas, questioning the recruitment criteria by Isithebe industries which, according to them, catered for outsiders and not local people.
Outlining the municipality’s position, Mandeni Mayor Siphesihle Zulu said they were concerned about youth unemployment in particular, which he said was ravaging the community of Mandeni.

‘Guided by the Constitution and as a local government, our responsibility is to create a climate conducive to attracting investments, which in turn will create job opportunities for people.
‘We can only encourage the Isithebe Community Organisation Committee to engagement with various stakeholders such as the Isithebe business cluster, Ilembe Chamber of Commerce and others,’ he said.
